Bruce Blevins was born in Powell, Wyoming, and graduated from Dubois, Wyoming, high school in 1965.  After graduating from Montana State University with a degree in Mathematics, Bruce went to work as a civilian employee with the National Security Agency in Maryland.

He has written eleven regional history books, mostly involving maps, map histories, or surveying.

The end of the cold war presented an opportunity to take early retirement which Bruce did, moving to the Powell-Cody-Red Lodge area in 1997.
